Air travel have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial air traffic control outage halted all operations.

Every arrival and departure were suspended after an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in jets at the stand while the issue persisted.

Operations Restart with Ongoing Delays

A statement indicated at 10:40 that services were back online, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, ongoing issues are expected to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with many others facing hold-ups.

Officials had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Travelers are urged to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," the statement added.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the operational halt to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.

Passengers should still plan to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport as knock-on effects are managed.
